The UCLA Injury and Illness Prevention Plan (IIPP) is designed to maintain
a safe and healthy work environment for all members of the UCLA community. The document describes
the program goals, statutory authority, and responsibilities of all employees and students. By
making safety a high priority we can reduce injuries and illnesses, increase productivity and
promote a safer and healthier environment for all individuals at UCLA.
Some departments may have a well-devised and organized Injury Illness Prevention Plan. Many
departments have the essential elements of an IIPP, but not organized in a manner consistent with
the Cal/OSHA Standard. Environment, Health and Safety (EH&S) wants to improve compliance with Cal/OSHA
IIPP by implementing this new IIPP template. EH&S hopes this new IIPP addresses both the mandates
of the State and the concerns of individual departments.
The IIPP should be an effective working document that has high priority in each work environment.
Departments must designate an IIPP coordinator to implement the department's IIPP and act as a liaison
to EH&S when questions and concerns arise. We hope to build a partnership with departments to improve
the health and safety of our UCLA Community.
For those that have not already informed EH&S of their departments IIPP Coordinators please do so
by January 15th, 2004. Please send an email to iipp@ehs.ucla.edu
