Dear Colleague,
Effective January 2, 2025, UCLA Environment, Health & Safety (EH&S) will be ending the Exposure Control Device Certification Program and will no longer perform annual testing and certification or coordinate maintenance services with Facilities Management (FM) on support for chemical fume hoods, snorkel hoods, etc.
Owners of exposure control devices (ECDs) will be responsible for ensuring each device is certified annually by an approved vendor and for local exhaust repair services with FM. EH&S will continue to verify that the certification is current and advise labs on safe practices during regularly scheduled site visits.
UCLA has negotiated rates with vendors to perform ECD certification services, and these vendors can be found in Bruin Buy Plus.
Additional vendors may be added to Bruin Buy Plus in the future.
When ECDs are found to perform outside of specification (including airflow alarm malfunctions), the owner should submit a service request either through
the UCLA Facilities Management website or the UCLA 311 app. Questions about maintenance and repair services should be directed to
Facilities Management Customer Service: (310) 206-8847 or service@fm.ucla.edu.
Once a fume hood has been serviced for repair, the vendor must be contacted to re-test and certify the device.
If a hood has been commissioned for radioactive material use, please contact fumehoods@ehs.ucla.edu prior to submitting a service request.
For general questions, or if 10 or more business days have passed and a service request has not been addressed, please contact at fumehoods@ehs.ucla.edu for assistance.
For additional information visit the Exposure Control Device Certification Program Curtailment FAQ or contact indhyg@ehs.ucla.edu.
Thank you,
UCLA EH&S
