As the Pacific Palisades wildfire and others affect air quality, precautions such as wearing an N95 respirator can help keep you safe from breathing in smoke particles wherever you are. If you're outdoors during unhealthy conditions or sensitive to air pollution, properly wearing an N95 respirator can make a big difference. Here's how to do it properly:
1️⃣ Clean your hands before handling the respirator.
2️⃣ Check for damages — don’t use a damaged or distorted mask.
3️⃣ Cup the respirator in your hand, with the nosepiece at your fingertips.
4️⃣ Place the respirator under your chin and over your nose.
5️⃣ Pull the straps over your head: Top strap sits above your ears, bottom strap sits at your neck.
6️⃣ Pinch the nosepiece to fit snugly against your nose.
7️⃣ Check for a good airtight seal:
• Cover respirator completely with the palms of your hands.
• Exhale strongly.
• Readjust respirator if you feel air escape around the edges.
