How do I know what safety glasses to pick?
It depends on the hazards you are working with such as impact, liquid splash, dust, lasers to name a few. There are certain ratings or options you should evaluate to ensure you have the best option.
- ANSI Z87+ is rated for high impact
- Polarized glasses for working in bright sunny conditions
- ANSI z87.1 meet the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) uniform testing standard for blunt impact, radiation, splash and droplets, dust, small particles.
- ANSI Z87 additional markings D3- splash and droplet protection, D4- dust protection, D5- fine dust protection, W plus shade number- level for welding protection,

Check the following for fit:
- Move your head: your safety glasses should stay in place when you move your head around including when you look down.
- Pressure points or areas that pinch: You should have no uncomfortable pressure points on the side of the head or behind the ears.
- Visibility: You should be able to see in all directions
- Fit around your nose: Your nose piece should make contact with your nose without pinching.
- Frames: Frames should fit close your face without hitting your eyelashes. The space around the frames and your face should be less then a 1 cm.
- Lenses: The lens should cover your eyebrows and any soft tissue around it.
Sides: safety glasses should cover the sides of your eyes and temples
